Memphis Venis, a senior at Galena High School, has officially signed to join the baseball program at Skyline College in San Bruno, California. His decision follows a standout season in which he posted a 0.64 earned run average and batted .371, complemented by a .600 slugging percentage. Venis will pursue a degree in kinesiology, a field he hopes will enable him to support young athletes both on and off the field.
A season defined by growth
Beyond the numbers, Venis credits his development to intensive training at baseball camps in Lakeland, Florida, where he refined his mechanics and mental approach to the game. The experience at the Florida Baseball Armory not only sharpened his skills but also reinforced his commitment to mental resilience, a trait he says will serve him well at the collegiate level.
Balancing academics and athletics
Venis graduates with a 4.7 weighted GPA, underscoring his dedication to scholarly achievement alongside his athletic commitments. He plans to study kinesiology at Skyline College, a choice that reflects his desire to merge his passion for sports with a broader understanding of human movement and health.
Looking toward the future
Beyond personal goals, Venis expresses a strong intention to give back to his community by mentoring younger players. He envisions running clinics and providing guidance to help the next generation of athletes navigate both the sport and life challenges. His signing is part of a larger wave of Galena seniors committing to collegiate athletics, a group that includes Russell Slamowitz, Jayden Quintero, Alyssa Dixon, Hunter Steele, Kole Steele, Lana Harrison, Manakai Kirn, Abby Yeung, Hayden Bickel, Luke Novotak, Emily (Aven) Egtvedt, Sebren Key, and Kole Buckley, each heading to programs ranging from Ottowa University Kansas to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
