A record‑breaking season
UMBC Athletics posted its best ever finish in the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup standings, earning 318 points and securing second place. The Retrievers' surge reflects a program that has captured America East championships in four different sports this season, including volleyball, women's indoor track and field, men's swimming and diving, and men's basketball.
Beyond those titles, seven additional UMBC teams placed within the top three of their respective competitions, underscoring the program's breadth of excellence across the conference.
A narrow margin reshapes the league narrative
Vermont claimed the cup with 320 points, edging UMBC by just 12 points, the narrowest margin in the league's history. Bryant followed in third with 308 points. This marks the third consecutive year and only the third time since the 2016‑17 season that three schools have broken the 300‑point threshold, highlighting the growing competitiveness of the conference.
Vermont's first Commissioner's Cup victory reflects a resurgence for the Catamounts, while Bryant's third‑place finish signals continued progress for the Bulldogs. The close race not only celebrates UMBC's historic achievement but also sets an exciting stage for future rivalries within the America East.
