Virginia Basketball Secures Mali’s Mahamadou Landoure in 2027 Class

International big man joins a frontcourt already stacked with global talent as the Cavaliers eye ACC dominance

Virginia’s men’s basketball program has announced the commitment of Mahamadou Landoure, a 6‑foot‑11, 260‑pound forward from Mali, to the 2027 recruiting class.

Landoure arrives after stints in Spain, Tanzania and with the NBA Academy Africa, bringing a blend of size, athleticism and international experience that the Cavaliers hope will bolster their interior.

He will spend his senior year at Bridgton Academy in Maine, where coaches expect him to refine his game before joining the university roster.

A Frontcourt Built for the Future

The Cavaliers already feature a global mix of big men, including Thijs De Ridder, Johann Grunloh and Ugonna Onyenso, creating a unique blend of skills and perspectives.

Coach Ryan Odom believes Landoure can develop into a key contributor, adding depth and versatility to a frontcourt that is expected to be a cornerstone of the team’s push for a top ACC finish.

With several returning starters — such as De Ridder, Grunloh, Sam Lewis, Chance Mallory, Silas Barksdale and Elijah Gertrude — the squad is poised to remain competitive and make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia’s history of successful international recruits suggests that Landoure could continue that trend, further cementing the program’s reputation on the world stage.
