Michele Hackett’s name has become synonymous with both triumph and controversy in the Puget Sound basketball scene.
A Season of Contrast
In the 2025‑26 campaign she guided Gig Harbor to a 19‑6 record, captured the 3A Puget Sound League Narrows Division coach of the year honor, and led the team to its most successful season in recent memory.
Controversy and Reinstatement
After a meeting with athletic director Blair Suek on April 23, the Peninsula School District stepped in less than two weeks later and announced Hackett would be returning, following her release from contract.
A New Chapter
Hackett announced she will take the coaching job at Stadium High School, citing her passion for rebuilding struggling programs and the specific needs of the Tacoma school, which had been winless in league play the previous year.
She praised seniors Kaliyah Miller and junior Willow Bonnici, who earned first‑team all‑league selections, and expressed confidence that the program could turn a new page under her leadership.
A Bittersweet Farewell
In a farewell email to the Gig Harbor community, Hackett thanked players, parents and staff, and wished the team continued success. She also reflected on the criticism she faced regarding her coaching style, acknowledging the challenges of balancing discipline with player development.
