Grand Canyon University’s men’s basketball program opened its summer schedule with the first Day Camp at the Canyon Activity Center, a session that will run through Thursday and is part of a broader lineup of sports camps offered by the university.
The camp combines intensive skill work with competitive play, featuring drills that focus on passing, shooting and defensive fundamentals, while participants also experience a 5‑on‑5 scrimmage that pits them against each other in a fast‑paced environment.
A Day of Skill Development and Fun
Coaches are front and center: assistant coach Matt Lottich directs play‑by‑play action, graduate assistant Isaac Demosthenes watches closely, head coach Bryce Drew offers strategic guidance, and assistant Kam Murrell provides hands‑on instruction throughout the day.
The energy is palpable as campers swing through passing drills, attempt jump shots and occasionally feel the sting of a wayward ball that lands on a face, prompting a quick pause and a laugh. After a long stretch of activity, one participant cools down with a bag of ice perched on his head, a visual reminder of the intensity of the session.
The Day Camp exemplifies GCU’s commitment to developing young talent, giving athletes a taste of college‑level training while they learn directly from the university’s own coaching staff.
