Northern Illinois University announced this week that Izaya Larthridge will join the Huskies for the 2026‑27 campaign, adding a 6‑foot‑6 wing who has already drawn attention for his all‑court skill set.
A junior season that spoke volumes
During his junior year at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Larthridge helped the team advance to the state semifinals while posting averages of 16.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. His defensive intensity and shooting touch earned him recognition from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, which named him to its all‑state squad.
The following year, a lingering injury kept him off the court for his senior season, but the experience seemed to deepen his resolve rather than diminish his prospects.
Coach Majkrzak’s endorsement
Head coach Matt Majkrzak praised the newcomer’s blend of talent and character, noting that Larthridge’s work ethic matches his on‑court versatility. “We’re excited to bring a player who can stretch the floor, protect the rim and make smart decisions with the ball,” Majkrzak said in the announcement.
Larthridge becomes the tenth commitment for NIU’s incoming class, a milestone that underscores the program’s growing appeal in the Mid‑American recruiting landscape.
