Siena College’s men’s basketball team has taken a decisive step toward rebuilding its roster for the 2026‑27 campaign by securing the commitment of New Zealand prospect Mana Martin, a 6‑5 guard whose blend of size, shooting and competitiveness has already turned heads across the Pacific. Coach Nevada Smith announced the signing, emphasizing the player’s potential to contribute immediately.
A New Chapter Begins
Martin, who measures a 6‑10 wingspan, is in his third season with the Canterbury Rams of New Zealand’s National Basketball League. This year he is averaging 4.5 points in 11.3 minutes while shooting 55 % overall and 41 % from three‑point range. His breakout came on May 9, when he poured in a career‑high 19 points on 7‑of‑11 shooting, including four triples, in his first professional start. Earlier this week he was named MVP of the NZU20 Nationals, capping a season that also included a stint at the 2024 FIBA U17 World Cup and a championship run with New Zealand’s U20 side.
The addition brings the total number of newcomers under Smith to six, joining a class that also features Andrés Amón of Spain, Australia’s Tim Ibukunoluwa, Turkey’s Tan Yildizoglu, and domestic freshmen Trent Egbiremolen, Parrish Edmond, Jr., and others. Returning players Brendan Coyle, Reid Ducharme, Isaiah Henderson and Owen Schlager will remain, while transfer Pace Prosser adds further depth. The roster blends proven conference champions with fresh talent, positioning the Saints for another strong run in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Coach Smith highlighted Martin’s competitive spirit and readiness to impact games on both ends of the floor, noting that the guard’s proven track record in international competition aligns with the program’s ambition to compete nationally. With the roster now set, Siena hopes Martin’s shooting touch and defensive instincts will help the team climb the NCAA rankings and make a deeper tournament push.
