On Tuesday, Aaron Ness released a heartfelt statement announcing his retirement from professional hockey, ending a 16‑year journey that saw him wear the colors of three NHL franchises and eight seasons with the Hershey Bears. The veteran defenseman expressed deep gratitude for the organization, his family, and the fans who cheered him through more than 800 AHL contests.
Ness leaves the game with a decorated résumé: two Calder Cup championships, 33 goals and 155 assists in 466 regular‑season games for Hershey, and 72 appearances at the NHL level with the New York Islanders, Washington Capitals and Arizona Coyotes. His 188 career points in the AHL place him among the most prolific American‑born defensemen ever to play for the Bears.
Having been named captain ahead of the 2024‑25 season, Ness guided the Bears to an Atlantic Division title in his inaugural year as leader, while also setting a franchise record with 76 playoff appearances as a defenseman.
