Virginia Tech Basketball Roster Overhaul Ahead of 2026‑27 Season

Key returnees and transfers aim to strengthen ACC campaign

Virginia Tech’s men’s basketball program is gearing up for the 2026‑27 campaign, a season that promises both continuity and fresh faces.

The core of last year’s squad remains intact, with five players returning, among them guard Ben Hammond, who posted a 14.9‑point average in ACC play, and forward Amani Hansberry, whose ability to operate at both the four and five positions adds a versatile edge.

A Revamped Roster

Among the newcomers, Miles Heide arrives from San Diego State, projected as a solid offensive rebounder, while Isaiah Elohim brings a 12.4‑point sophomore average from Florida Atlantic. Guard Jaylen Curry, a senior transfer from Oklahoma State, contributed 10.1 points per game for the Cowboys last season, and sharpshooter Ethan Copeland boasts a 42.9% three‑point clip from Stetson.

The team also welcomes big‑man Kuol Atak, who can slide between the three and four spots, and guard Sin’Cere Jones, who returns after an injury‑shortened year to inject experience. Transfers Tyler Johnson, Ned Hull, Eltayeb Eltayeb, Musa Sagnia and Solomon Davis add further depth, though their exact roles are still being defined.

Coach Mike Young emphasizes that the blend of retained talent and incoming transfers will be crucial as the Hokies look to carve out a solid niche in the ACC. The first scheduled contest is set for November 3 against Coppin State, a game that will serve as an early gauge of the team’s chemistry.
