The Class of 2026 from Duluth East High School marked a significant milestone on Saturday, as 362 seniors gathered at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center for their graduation ceremony. The event, held in the Amsoil Arena within the convention center, drew families, faculty and local officials to celebrate the culmination of years of study.
Empty Covers and Shifting Tassels
Each graduate was presented with a blank diploma cover, a symbolic placeholder that will later be replaced with the official certificate once it is mailed. In a time‑honored tradition, the students moved their graduation tassels from the right side of their caps to the left, signaling their transition from candidates to alumni.
A Musical Tribute
The ceremony featured a live performance by the Duluth East orchestra, which played Jean Sibelius’s "Adante festivio," adding a resonant backdrop to the festivities and underscoring the cultural richness of the occasion.
Speakers Reflect on the Journey
Class speakers Julia Davis and Katherine Kehtel addressed their peers and guests, sharing personal anecdotes and hopes for the future, while urging the graduating class to stay connected and pursue their ambitions. Their words resonated with many in the audience, highlighting the close-knit nature of the senior class.
The event concluded with applause and a sense of communal pride, underscoring the resilience and camaraderie that defined the graduating class. As the caps were tossed and the empty diploma covers were clutched, the graduates left the venue with a shared sense of accomplishment and anticipation for what lay ahead.
