Kaitlyn Lewis Takes the Helm of Scranton Women’s Basketball

A hometown prodigy returns to guide the Lady Royals toward another chapter of excellence

A New Era for the Lady Royals

Kaitlyn Lewis has been appointed head coach of the University of Scranton’s women’s basketball team, succeeding Ben O’Brien and becoming the program’s ninth head coach.

Lewis grew up watching the Lady Royals from the stands, attending camps and games as a youth, which forged a deep personal connection to the university and its tradition.

Her coaching résumé includes assistant positions at Scranton, Lehigh University, American University and Rider University, where she earned recognition as a WBCA Top Thirty Under 30 coach, highlighting her rapid ascent among the nation’s emerging women’s basketball leaders.

Under her predecessor, the team posted a historic 32‑1 season, capturing the 11th straight Landmark Conference title and finishing as NCAA Division III runner‑up, setting a high bar for the new staff.

Lewis says she intends to honor that tradition while imprinting her own philosophy, emphasizing player development, community engagement and a relentless defensive identity.
