As the heat of summer settles over the Georgia coast, the Richmond Hill Wildcats basketball programs are turning the season’s pause into a period of intense preparation. Head coaches Sarah Jones and Bill Henderson are orchestrating workouts and camp sessions that promise to reshape their squads before the first regular‑season games.
Summer Camps Shape the Wildcats' Outlook
Jones, now in her thirteenth year at the helm of the girls’ team, has scheduled camp stints at Bryan County and Camden County. She emphasizes that the upcoming freshman class, which enjoyed recent success at the middle‑school level, will add depth and energy to a roster that finished last season 10‑16 and fell in an opening‑round state matchup to Camden County. "The freshmen bring a hunger that complements our returning players," Jones said.
Henderson, entering his fifteenth year coaching the boys, ran a camp that attracted roughly 120 participants. His schedule includes trips to Georgia Southern’s campus as well as home games against Bradwell and Calvary Day School, with a final stop at Camden County. The boys finished 14‑15 last year before bowing out to Buford County in the state preliminaries. Henderson remains upbeat, noting that the incoming freshmen could be the catalyst for a turnaround.
Looking Ahead
Both coaches share a common vision: to translate the momentum from summer sessions into a competitive edge when the regular season begins. With a blend of seasoned returnees and promising newcomers, the Wildcats hope to improve on past records and contend for deeper runs in the state tournament.
