Airbnb has teamed up with the Women's Super League to launch a £1 million Player Accommodation Fund, designed to relieve the housing pressures faced by professional women footballers during transfer windows.
The initiative offers short‑term stays for players who are relocating to new clubs, helping them settle into unfamiliar cities and focus on performance rather than logistics.
Eligibility is limited to WSL athletes navigating the transfer window, with access managed directly through the league’s support channels.
Beyond the players, the partnership also extends benefits to fans traveling to away matches, offering them accommodation options that make them feel at home in new locales.
Fara Williams, a former England international who has experienced the upheaval of relocation firsthand, said the fund addresses a real pain point that has long gone unnoticed.
Empowering the next generation
By removing a practical barrier, the fund not only eases transitions but also signals a commitment to the long‑term development of women’s football across the country.
Airbnb’s involvement builds on a broader track record of supporting athletes, from its Athlete Travel Grant to its role as the Official Supporter of the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.
The collaboration arrives as the Barclays WSL enjoys record growth, with attendance up 31 % since the 2022/23 season and a 65 % rise in the second tier, underscoring the rising profile of the sport.
