Charlie Ward Launches First Rattler Basketball Camp

Three‑day event on FAMU’s campus aims to connect high school coaches with college talent

Rattler Basketball Camp Sets New Standard

Former Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, now the head coach of Florida A&M’s men’s basketball team, is set to run his first-ever team camp on the university’s Tallahassee campus from June 5 through June 7. The three‑day session will feature six games per participating team, each officiated by certified referees, and is designed to give coaches a chance to evaluate prospects for the upcoming season.

Camp Structure and Coaching Focus

Sebastian Aguilar, who serves as director of basketball operations for the Rattlers, is coordinating the camp alongside Ward’s coaching staff and current Florida A&M players. The program promises hands‑on instruction that blends skill development with game‑situational play, giving participants a realistic preview of college‑level competition.

Organizers anticipate between 30 and 40 high school teams will attend, providing a broad pool of talent for Ward to observe as he builds relationships with coaches across the region. The format emphasizes both skill refinement and strategic understanding, preparing athletes for the next level.

Early‑bird registration at $599 closed on May 31, and general admission for teams is now $699 per squad, effective June 1. Spectators are welcome to watch the games at no charge, adding community engagement to the event.

Teams interested in more information can reach out to Rattlers assistant coach Jarrod Lazarus through the camp registration link, while Gerald Thomas, III remains part of the support staff.
