La Cueva High School's baseball team is entering the 5A state tournament with a rare combination of talent and depth, anchored by three seniors who have already secured spots at Division I programs.
Dylan Blomker, Everett Burdett and Luke Feist have each signed with prominent colleges — LSU, Oregon State and the University of New Mexico respectively — and bring impressive pitching records that have helped the team to a combined 21 wins this season.
A Pitching Powerhouse
Blomker stands at 8‑0 with a 1.73 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 48.2 innings, while Burdett mirrors him at 8‑0 but with a microscopic 0.89 ERA and just five earned runs allowed over nearly 40 innings. Feist, at 5‑1 with a 1.48 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 33 innings, rounds out a rotation that has surrendered fewer than 19 runs across its top arms.
Coach Gerard Pineda has highlighted the supportive yet competitive atmosphere within the squad, noting that the depth of talent in New Mexico’s high school ranks has made this year’s tournament especially fierce.
