The recent regional baseball tournaments have drawn to a close, leaving a handful of local teams with bittersweet endings to their seasons.
Petoskey's Season Ends in Shutout
Petoskey fell 10-0 to Escanaba in a Division 2 regional matchup, a result that capped a 24-9 campaign which included a seventh straight district championship. Pitcher Lennox Peacock limited the Petoskey bats to just four hits while striking out five in four innings. The only Petoskey hitmakers were Dylan Aukeman and Tyler Pool, who each managed a single hit before the game slipped away.
Escanaba will now face Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills in the regional championship game, looking to carry the momentum from a dominant pitching performance into the next round.
Harbor Springs Falls to St. Francis
Harbor Springs saw its 27-4 season come to an end with an 11-3 loss to Traverse City St. Francis in a Division 3 regional semifinal. The defeat sets up a championship clash between St. Francis and Sanford Meridian, a match that will determine the next regional champion.
Harbor Light Bowed Out by Hillman
In a tightly contested Division 4 semifinal, Harbor Light dropped a 6-5 decision to Hillman. The loss concludes a 24-9 season for the Harbor Light squad, and Hillman will advance to meet Norway in the regional final.
Despite the defeats, each team finished the year with respectable records and will begin planning for the upcoming season with a mix of youthful talent and experienced leadership.
