Season Honors
The 2026 Washington County high school baseball season concluded with a wave of accolades, recognizing the talent that defined a competitive year across multiple programs.
Junior Jay McConnaughey from Clear Spring was crowned the Herald‑Mail Hitter of the Year, capping a campaign in which he batted .487 and drove in 33 runs while delivering eight home runs.
Senior Shawn Higgins of South Hagerstown earned Pitcher of the Year after posting a 2.10 ERA and striking out 46 batters over 40 innings, a performance that anchored his team’s rotation.
Notable Performances
Other standouts included Logan Atkinson of Boonsboro, who hit .446, and Antonio Dominguez of Broadfording, who compiled 13 doubles and 23 RBIs, while Caleb Wise shocked observers with a .652 average.
Pitchers such as Grant Semler of North Hagerstown and Tyson Mangold of South Hagerstown also turned in strong outings, posting ERAs below 4.50 and surpassing 30 strikeouts each.
The depth of talent extended to fielders like Darian Gaskins of Boonsboro, who hit four home runs, and Zack Yanick of Broadfording, whose 3.05 ERA and 52 strikeouts highlighted a dominant pitching staff.
Coaches and teammates alike praised the collective effort, noting that the season’s success was built on both individual excellence and cohesive team play across schools in Washington County.
