A Coach With Big Ten Credentials
Penn State announced the addition of Dwayne Stephens to its men’s basketball coaching staff, filling one of the two openings left by former assistants Joe Crispin and Jamal Brunt.
Stephens arrives after a lengthy career that includes nearly two decades as an assistant at Michigan State, where he contributed to three Final Four appearances and helped the Spartans capture multiple Big Ten titles.
Prior to that, he spent four seasons at Marquette, a stint highlighted by a Final Four run in 2003 that featured NBA legend Dwyane Wade, and before that he honed his skills at Oakland and Western Michigan.
His brother Jarrett Stephens, a standout player for Penn State from 1996 to 2000, provides a personal tie that could deepen the connection between the new coach and the university community.
Coaches and analysts note that Stephens’s reputation for developing talent and his Big Ten pedigree position him as a valuable asset as Penn State seeks to elevate its program in a competitive landscape.
