Portland Hearts of Pine announced that a USL W League women's soccer franchise will debut in May 2027, marking a major step toward expanding professional opportunities for female athletes in New England.
A Community‑Driven Vision
The project emerged from extensive consultations with local fans, youth clubs and civic leaders who repeatedly voiced a demand for a women's team that could mirror the success of the men's side.
Competing in the Northeast Division alongside clubs such as Vermont Green FC and Hartford Athletic, the new squad will call Fitzpatrick Stadium its home field, pending final approval from the Portland City Council.
The USL W League season runs from May through July, a window chosen to let college players preserve their NCAA eligibility while gaining high‑level experience.
"Our goal is to create a platform that inspires the next generation of girls to pick up a ball and see a pathway to the professional game," said Hannah Sirois, Vice President of Fan Experience for the organization.
Gabe Hoffman‑Johnson, Founder and Chief Community Officer, added that the franchise reflects the community's long‑standing desire for a dedicated women's team and will serve as a catalyst for local youth programs.
The inaugural season is slated to feature roughly six home matches, with season‑ticket deposits opening on June 11, 2024 at a price of $90 per seat, or $15 per game.
