A Milestone Series
Eastern Michigan University is set to close out the regular season with a three‑game series against Ohio University from May 14 through May 16, a matchup that also serves as a celebration of the program’s 2026 senior class. The Eagles will stage a pregame ceremony on Saturday to recognize 17 seniors before the final contest.
Among the seniors, standout performers such as Ty Stecko and Devan Zirwas have been instrumental this year. Stecko, who recently homered in four straight games and posted a .625 average in a recent stretch, has been a catalyst at the top of the lineup, while Zirwas, now tied for 15th in program history with 21 career home runs, continues to provide power and RBI production. Both have earned Mid‑American Conference weekly accolades, with Stecko named Player of the Week and Zirwas contributing to a series of conference honors.
Coaching Change
The series also marks a transitional period for the program, as interim head coach Trevor Beerman, at 30 years old, becomes one of the youngest coaches in NCAA Division I history. Having stepped into the role after Robbie Britt’s departure to the Boston Red Sox, Beerman brings a fresh perspective while guiding a roster that includes 22 newcomers, seven of them freshmen.
Series History
Historically, the Eagles hold a 73‑71 edge over the Bobcats, but the recent head‑to‑head record favors Ohio, with Eastern dropping a 2‑1 series in April and winning only one of the last ten meetings. However, the team has tasted success before, having captured a three‑game series win in 2018 and looking to achieve its first three‑game sweep of Ohio since that year. The upcoming games present a realistic chance to break into single‑season leaderboards across multiple categories.
Game Details
First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, with the Saturday contest also featuring the senior ceremony. With the possibility of a third consecutive victory over Ohio and a chance to finish the season strong, the Eagles hope to finish on a high note before the next chapter.
