Roster Shifts Ahead of Fall Camp
Maryland’s football program is navigating a pivotal transition after the departures of linebacker Keyshawn Flowers and quarterback Devin Kargman. Both players left the roster, creating vacancies at positions that have been central to the team’s recent defensive and offensive schemes.
Flowers, a standout recruit from Archbishop Spalding High School, had been a top‑ranked prospect in the Class of 2024, choosing Maryland over powerhouses such as Notre Dame and Miami. Though he appeared in only 23 games for the Terrapins, his 36 tackles and single sack hinted at untapped potential that the coaching staff hopes to unlock in future seasons.
To fill the void, Maryland has turned to the transfer portal, welcoming former VMI standout Stephen Dean. Dean arrives with a strong track record, having posted 117 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss in his most recent season, bringing a proven knack for disrupting opposing offenses.
At the quarterback position, the Terrapins have added Sacramento State transfer Cardell Williams, who will provide depth behind projected starter Malik Washington. Williams brings a fresh perspective and a skill set that complements Washington’s style, giving the offense added flexibility as it prepares for the upcoming campaign.
Beyond the two primary additions, Maryland has also secured Jordan Williams, a former basketball player under Buzz Williams at Texas A&M, who brings a unique blend of athleticism and competitiveness. Griffin Brewster, a new assistant coach with prior familiarity with Kargman at Kent State, is expected to help integrate these newcomers smoothly into the team’s culture.
The moves come as the program addresses both defensive and offensive needs, offsetting the loss of experienced talent with fresh blood. With fall camp on the horizon, the Terrapins are focused on building cohesion among the new pieces while leveraging the familiarity of returning staff and players to accelerate development.
