A Promising Roster
Louisiana’s baseball squad is set to retain a core group of nine players for the 2027 campaign, a move that follows a 41‑25 finish to the 2026 season. The returners include a mix of freshmen who made immediate impacts and seasoned upperclassmen, giving the team continuity as it prepares for another run in the Sun Belt Conference.
Standout Performances
Colt Brown led the team at the plate with a .314 average, 72 hits, 53 RBIs, 43 runs and eight home runs, while Blaze Rodriguez posted a flawless .968 fielding percentage and earned a spot on the Starkville Regional All‑Tournament team. Noah Lewis contributed a .297 average with 54 hits, 40 runs, 19 RBIs and three homers, and Donovan LaSalle paced the club with 13 home runs.
Pitching depth will be anchored by Sawyer Pruitt, who finished 7‑5 with 83 strikeouts and a 5.21 ERA, alongside Hayden Pearson, who posted a 1.34 ERA over 33½ innings and recorded two saves. Parker Smith also contributed a 4‑3 record, 39 strikeouts and a 3.74 ERA, giving the staff a balanced mix of experience and youth.
Coaching Outlook
Coach Matt Deggs and his staff will benefit from having nine declared returners, which should reduce the workload in the transfer portal and allow more focus on player development. The program’s momentum, combined with the conference’s competitive landscape, sets the stage for a promising 2027 season.
