British driver Katherine Legge is set to tackle one of motorsport’s most demanding feats next year, announcing that she will attempt ‘The Double’ in 2026 by entering both the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca‑Cola 600 on the same day.
Legge will pilot a Chevrolet-powered entry for HMD Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing in the 500‑mile Indy event, taking the No. 11 car, while she will switch to a different Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports in the 600‑mile stock‑car race, driving the No. 78. Both programs are backed by the automaker and by e.l.f. Cosmetics, which will serve as her primary sponsor across the two events.
A Milestone for Women in Racing
At 45, the Englishwoman brings a diverse résumé that includes campaigns in IndyCar, NASCAR and IMSA, having contested at least one race in each of North America’s premier series since 2024. Her best result at the Indy 500 came in 2012, when she finished 22nd, and she has yet to compete in the Coca‑Cola 600, though she did run in the Xfinity Series’ BetMGB 300 at Charlotte last year.
The undertaking places her in the company of Tony Stewart, the only driver to have completed the full 1,100‑mile, 600‑lap ‘Double’ in 2001, a milestone that underscores the physical and strategic challenges of the double‑header. Legge’s attempt will not affect championship points, as she is not a full‑time competitor in either series.
Beyond the personal challenge, her participation is being celebrated as a breakthrough for female drivers in a sport still dominated by men. With the support of Chevrolet and e.l.f. Cosmetics, the campaign aims to highlight new pathways for women seeking success on both oval and superspeedway formats.
The collaboration also illustrates how sponsors are willing to invest in unconventional projects that push the boundaries of traditional racing calendars, blending the pageantry of the Indy 500 with the endurance of a night‑time stock‑car race under the lights of Charlotte Motor Speedway.
