Jasmine Porter has been appointed as an assistant coach for the Tarleton State women's basketball team for the 2026‑27 season, a move that adds a seasoned strategist to the program's growing staff.
A Family Legacy Fuels New Ambitions
Porter arrives after a productive period at Utah Valley, where she helped guide the team to its first postseason win in the 2025 WNIT, a 70‑64 victory over Air Force, and contributed to multiple award‑winning players.
During that tenure, she mentored Kylee Mabry, who earned WAC Co‑Sixth Player of the Year, and Tahlia White, a member of the All‑Defensive Team, while Cambree Blackham secured a spot on the WAC All‑Freshman Team.
Her coaching journey also includes assistant roles at Park University in Gilbert, Arizona, and Montana Tech, as well as high school successes at Layton Christian Academy, where she captured three Utah State championships.
Porter's family background adds a distinctive flavor to her new role; her father, Bobby Porter, has amassed six state titles at Layton Christian and now coaches at Sivers School of the Arts in Dayton, Ohio, while her brother, BJ Porter, leads the men's program at Azusa Pacific in California.
Tarleton State recently celebrated its 1,000th program win and returned four letterwinners from the previous season, including starting guard Caroline Lyles, setting the stage for a competitive outlook.
