A New Chapter for Virginia Football
The University of Virginia announced this week that Justin Speros will assume the role of general manager for its football program, a move that consolidates his long‑standing involvement with the team’s personnel operations.
Speros first joined the Cavaliers in 2022 as director of scouting, quickly moving to director of recruiting before being tapped as chief of staff and assistant general manager. In those capacities he oversaw roster construction, player evaluations, recruiting visits and the entire player‑personnel department, tasks that have become central to the program’s strategic direction.
Head coach Tony Elliott praised the promotion, noting Speros’ deep familiarity with the organization and his integral contribution to building a competitive roster. “His knowledge of our players and the recruiting landscape is unmatched,” Elliott said in the announcement.
Speros expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating his commitment to the program’s success and his excitement to continue shaping the team’s future. He also highlighted his prior experiences at South Florida, Western Carolina, Clemson and stints with the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars as formative influences.
The transition will see Cory Martin step into the newly created position of assistant general manager and director of player personnel, ensuring continuity as the department moves forward under its new leadership structure.
