After a distinguished four‑year run that made him the program’s all‑time leader in three‑point field goals, Hunter Cattoor is returning to Blacksburg to begin his coaching career. The move comes as Mike Young, now in his eighth season as head coach, announced that Cattoor will join his staff as an assistant.
Cattoor’s collegiate résumé is marked by record‑setting performances, including a 31‑point outburst in the 2022 ACC Tournament final against Duke that highlighted his ability to thrive on the biggest stages. He finished his career with 332 made threes, 800 attempted treys and a 41.5% shooting percentage from beyond the arc, while starting 104 games and averaging 10.0 points per game.
From France to the G‑League
Following graduation, Cattoor took his game overseas, spending a season with BCM Gravelines‑Dunkerque in France where he averaged 8.4 points and shot 36.7% from the field. He then returned to the United States to compete in the G‑League with the Long Island Nets, posting 8.5 points per game and a 42.9% three‑point clip. Those experiences have broadened his tactical perspective and reinforced his commitment to continuous improvement.
Mike Young expressed enthusiasm about the addition, emphasizing Cattoor’s toughness, competitiveness and deep understanding of the program’s culture. "We’re excited to bring Hunter back into the fold," Young said, noting that Cattoor was part of the first wave of recruits that helped shape the current roster.
Cattoor will now work directly with the student‑athletes, aiming to instill a championship mindset and help the next generation of Hokies elevate their performance. He looks forward to meeting the players, building relationships in the locker room and contributing to the team’s pursuit of future success.
