Emporia State University announced this week that Josue Rivas will join the women's soccer program as an assistant coach, bringing a blend of playing experience and coaching credentials to the staff.
Rivas arrives after stints at Sporting Nebraska FC and as an assistant at West Side High School in Omaha, where he contributed to player development and tactical analysis.
A Playing Legacy Meets Coaching Vision
His five‑year tenure at Creighton University culminated in an 8‑4‑8 record in 2022, a season that saw the team reach the MIAA Tournament semifinals, a milestone that underscored his ability to translate strategy into results.
Beyond the clipboard, Rivas honed his skills on the field in the El Salvador Youth Development League under the guidance of World Cup veteran Jamie Alberto Rodriguez, a formative period that shaped his tactical outlook.
Certified with a USSF B License and a FC Barcelona Tactical Analyst credential, he combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of modern game dynamics.
The announcement comes as the program prepares for the 2026 campaign, opening on August 27 at Drury before hosting Maryville on August 29 for its home debut.
Last season the team advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals, a feat that set high expectations for the upcoming schedule.
Head coach Jane Grimley‑Gunn praised the hire, noting that Rivas's playing pedigree and analytical background will enrich the squad's preparation.
