Northern Illinois University’s men’s basketball program received a significant boost this week as head coach Matt Majkrzak confirmed the verbal commitment of David Douglas Jr. for the 2026‑27 season, marking the eleventh signing for the upcoming roster.
Douglas, a 6‑foot‑5 guard celebrated for his sharpshooting and defensive tenacity, arrives after a standout freshman year at Green Bay where he earned Horizon League Freshman of the Year honors.
At Fresno State during the 2025‑26 season he averaged 7.2 points per game, and his previous stint at Green Bay saw him post 8.5 points per game in the 2023‑24 campaign.
His high school legacy includes a Class 1A state championship at Yorkville Christian in 2022, where he topped the team with 33.8 points per game as a senior.
Coach Majkrzak highlighted the player’s fit, noting that Douglas’s shooting accuracy and defensive intensity align with the Huskies’ tactical vision.
The commitment reflects the program’s aggressive recruitment strategy as it seeks to strengthen its competitiveness in the Mid‑American conference.
