Colorado Youth Hockey Coach Arrested on Child Sex Crime Charges

Rory Nathaniel Mushlin, 40, faces multiple felonies after investigators uncovered a pattern of abuse.

Rory Nathaniel Mushlin, a 40‑year‑old coach with the South Suburban Sports Complex, was taken into custody this week on a slate of felony accusations that include sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust, unlawful electronic sexual communication, obscenity and internet sexual exploitation of a child.

According to investigators, Mushlin has been leading a youth hockey squad since January 2023, with practices held at the South Suburban Sports Complex as well as the Parker Field House and the Family Sports Center in Arapahoe County. The allegations stem from a tip that prompted detectives to uncover a series of inappropriate interactions with underage players.

Community Response

Authorities have identified multiple victims, all minors, and are urging anyone who believes they may have been contacted or assaulted by Mushlin — or who possesses any relevant information — to come forward. Detective Clay can be reached at sclay@dcsheriff.net.

Mushlin’s bail was set at $75,000, and the case remains an open, active investigation as law enforcement continues to piece together the full scope of the alleged abuse. The arrests have sent shockwaves through local sports leagues, prompting officials to review background‑check procedures for volunteers and staff who work with children.
