A New Era for Ohio Stadium
Ohio State is embarking on a sweeping renovation of Ohio Stadium that will reshape the fan experience for years to come. The project, recently approved by the board of trustees, encompasses a brand‑new playing surface, a comprehensive Wi‑Fi upgrade and a state‑of‑the‑art video board that will dominate the south stands.
Central to the upgrade is a $31 million investment in a next‑generation video board and sound system perched atop the south side of the venue. Athletic Director Ross Bjork emphasized that the new board will deliver larger, brighter and more crisp visuals, a clear upgrade from the current installation that was last refreshed in 2012 and measures 42 feet by 125 feet.
The timeline calls for the new board and accompanying sound enhancements to be fully operational by 2027, positioning the stadium to host a new era of college football spectacles. In addition, ribbon boards approved last year are slated to debut for the 2026 season, while a complementary video board was also green‑lit for the north end of the arena.
Joey Kaufman, a longtime reporter covering Ohio State athletics, noted the significance of the upgrades for both the university and its massive fan base. With these enhancements, Ohio Stadium aims to maintain its status as one of college football’s most iconic and technologically advanced venues.
