The University of Arkansas men’s basketball team will open its home schedule on Dec. 22 when it welcomes Central Michigan to Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville. The matchup marks the second meeting between the Razorbacks and the Chippewas, the first of which came in 2006 and resulted in an Arkansas victory.
A Meeting of New Faces
Both programs are in transitional phases. Central Michigan, under second‑year head coach Andy Bronkema, is looking to bounce back from a 10‑21 season and has bolstered its roster with four transfer‑portal additions and former football standout Travis Ambrose. Arkansas, meanwhile, is reshaping its lineup after a wave of departures and arrivals through the portal.
Coach Bronkema’s Chippewas bring a defense that ranked fifth in the Mid‑American Conference last year, a unit that will be tested against an Arkansas squad that has secured two portal commitments — Furman’s center Cooper Bowser and Georgia’s guard Jeremiah Wilkinson — as well as a freshmen class headlined by five‑star recruits Jordan Smith, Abdou Toure, Miikka Muurinen and JJ Andrews.
Arkansas also welcomes back three key contributors from last season — Billy Richmond, Isaiah Sealy and Paulo Semedo — while forwards Trevon Brazile and Nick Pringle have exhausted their eligibility and Meleek Thomas and Darius Acuff remain in the NBA Draft pool. The Razorbacks’ depth will be further tested as several players, including Karter Knox, D.J. Wagner and Elmir Dzafic, have entered the transfer portal and committed to programs such as Louisville, Maryland and Connecticut.
Looking Ahead
The upcoming game will serve as an early barometer for both teams as they navigate recruiting changes and aim to establish chemistry before conference play. Fans can expect a competitive contest that showcases the evolving landscape of college basketball’s transfer era.
