The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) state playoffs are underway across baseball, softball, and lacrosse, drawing intense attention from fans and athletes alike. While the tournament spans the entire state, several squads from the Bayside South region remain in contention for top honors.
Lacrosse Semifinals Set for a Friday Doubleheader
In lacrosse, both the boys' and girls' teams from Stephen Decatur High School have secured spots in the state semifinals. The girls' squad, seeded No. 1 in Class 2A, cruised past Northern with a 21‑3 victory, while the boys' team, the No. 5 seed in Class 3A, posted a 9‑2 win over Centennial to advance.
The two Decatur squads will meet in a highly anticipated doubleheader at Glen Burnie High School on Friday, a matchup that promises to showcase the depth of talent within the Bayside South region.
Baseball action sees Stephen Decatur, the No. 1 overall seed in Class 3A, hosting Towson in the state quarterfinals, while Mardela prepares to travel to face Patuxent in its own quarterfinal test.
Softball remains a battle of resilience. Mardela, still chasing back‑to‑back state titles, rolled past Pocomoke 13‑0 to clinch the 1A East II Regional Championship, whereas Stephen Decatur's season concluded with a 12‑5 loss to Arundel.
