Space Needle Gets a Soccer‑Ball Facelift
The iconic Space Needle in Seattle has been cloaked in a massive soccer‑ball graphic as part of the city’s preparations for the FIFA World Cup. The eye‑catching design, which covers the structure’s roof, turns the landmark into a giant ball that is visible from across the city.
Local firm Long Painting Company was commissioned to execute the artwork, employing drone videography and time‑lapse photography to document each stage of the conversion. The company’s expertise in large‑scale painting made it the ideal partner for the project.
Peter Tomozawa, chief executive of SeattleFWC26, said the visual captures the growing excitement that is spreading throughout the region ahead of the tournament.
The transformed roof will remain in place for the duration of the World Cup, serving as a permanent reminder of the city’s role as a host venue. The first match scheduled in Seattle will pit Belgium against Egypt on June 15, with kickoff set for noon.
Beyond the spectacle, the initiative underscores Seattle’s blend of tradition and innovation, reinforcing its reputation as a dynamic host city that embraces global sporting events.
