Southern Miss announced that guard Isaac Taveras has officially withdrawn from the transfer portal and will suit up for the Golden Eagles in the 2026‑27 campaign.
Taveras capped his previous season as the team’s second‑leading scorer and rebounder, posting 15.3 points and 6.8 boards per game while also topping the squad in steals at just over 2.2 per contest.
After missing a stretch of conference play due to a wrist injury, he returned to help the Eagles win seven of their final ten outings, capping the run with a 32‑point explosion in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament semifinal against Troy.
A Boost for the Upcoming Season
Coach Kyle Smith highlighted the value of having a proven scorer who can create his own shot and defend multiple positions, noting that Taveras will join five other returning players to form a core group with championship aspirations.
The guard’s journey from Fresno State to South Plains College and now back to Hattiesburg reflects a deliberate path that has honed his skills and resilience, making him a key piece in the program’s rebuild.
Fans can expect a more dynamic offense and tighter defense, as Taveras’s ability to generate steals and score in bursts should translate into additional wins when the new season begins.
