Regional Final Showdown
The Lennard Longhorn girls flag football team captured a 13‑7 victory over the Alonso Ravens in the state regional final, securing a spot in the upcoming semifinals.
Ranked eleventh nationally, the Longhorns will now meet the second‑seeded Harmony Longhorns, a matchup that promises another fierce contest on the field.
Freshman quarterback Hayden Schofield was the offensive catalyst, throwing for 197 yards and three touchdowns while also adding a rushing score. His performance helped the Longhorns pull ahead in the fourth quarter.
Defensively, the team leaned on standout playmakers. Interceptions by Jordyn Colvenbach, Jurnee Bailey and Jules Ellsworth turned momentum in Lennard’s favor during critical drives.
The victory also highlighted the depth of the roster, with contributions from players such as Makenzie Walker, Gabby Werr, Mia Garcia, Grace Valenzuela, Stacey Reducindo and Devon Miller, who all saw significant snaps.
Looking ahead, the Longhorns are scheduled to play their next game on May 16 at the Buccaneers complex, where they will aim to extend their winning streak.
Coach Stacey Reducindo praised the team’s resilience, noting that the blend of youthful talent and seasoned leadership bodes well for the semifinals.
The upcoming clash with Harmony Longhorns will be more than a regional rivalry; it will be a test of strategy and endurance as the Longhorns seek a berth in the state championship.
