Benson High School will host a groundbreaking ceremony this Saturday to launch the reconstruction of its historic baseball field, a project that pays tribute to one of its most distinguished alumni.
Honoring a Legacy
Paul Brown, who graduated from Benson High as a three‑sport standout in football, basketball and baseball, devoted much of his adult life to improving the school's athletic facilities. Even after his retirement, he remained active in the community, serving as a football referee and pursuing hobbies such as boating and golf.
Friends and family recall how Brown, who passed away in April, consistently turned his attention toward giving back to Benson High, especially by championing the baseball field that had been a cornerstone of the school's sports program.
The ceremony, scheduled for June 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., will bring together students, alumni, and local supporters to celebrate Brown's contributions and to mark the beginning of the field's renovation.
Community Support
The Omaha Benson Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing educational and athletic opportunities at the school, is partnering with the district to fund the project. Their involvement underscores a broader commitment to preserving the legacy of alumni who have shaped the community.
School officials expect the renovated field to be ready for the upcoming season, providing a modern venue that honors Brown's vision while supporting future athletes.
