South Carolina’s men’s soccer program recently opened its doors to youngsters between the ages of five and fourteen for a five‑day Junior Gamecocks camp.
The intensive schedule combined technical drills with small‑sided scrimmages, giving campers ample opportunity to touch the ball and apply what they learned under the guidance of Gamecock players and coaches.
Head coach Tony Annan, who has led the program for several seasons, took the chance to stress the simple pleasure of the sport, reminding participants that loving the game is the foundation of any successful career on the field.
The camp culminated in an awards ceremony that celebrated standout performances, reinforcing the message that progress is measured not only in trophies but also in personal growth and enjoyment.
A Summer of Growth
This inaugural session marks the first of three Junior Gamecocks camps the university plans to host throughout the summer, a schedule that reflects the rising enthusiasm for soccer across North America as the continent prepares to welcome the World Cup.
Beyond the drills, the initiative aims to plant deeper roots for the sport within the local community, offering a pathway for youth to connect with collegiate players and envision future possibilities on the pitch.
