A Celebration of Mountaineer Baseball
West Virginia University’s baseball coach Steve Sabins took the opportunity to celebrate the Mountaineers’ fervent supporters, noting that the energy in the stands rivals the iconic atmosphere of the New York Yankees.
During a recent matchup that saw the team dominate Cal Poly 11‑2, the crowd at Kendrick Family Ballpark swelled to fill the hillside, creating a sea of gold and blue that underscored the program’s growing stature.
The victory marked the program’s first Super Regional win, a milestone that drew notable figures such as broadcaster Pat McAfee and former coach Rich Rodriguez, who were seen cheering from the stands.
Sabins took the time to thank university President Michael T. Benson and Athletic Director Wren Baker for their unwavering backing, emphasizing that strong leadership has been crucial to the team’s progress.
