A Clutch Finish in Lexington
The senior All-Star girls basketball game in Lexington turned into a back-and-forth battle that was decided in the final seconds. Kentucky led 52-41 with five minutes remaining, only to watch Indiana rally with a 12-0 run that set the stage for a dramatic finish.
Brianna Wilkins capped the comeback with a layup as the clock expired, giving the All-Stars a 59-57 edge. Her 21 points complemented Ashlinn James’ 22 points and nine rebounds, while Lola Lampley’s three-point buzzer-beater had put Indiana ahead at halftime.
The duo accounted for 20 of Kentucky’s 30 first-half points, showcasing the chemistry that has defined their partnership. Brooke Zartman connected on a 3-pointer to put Indiana in front 53-52 with 2:45 to play, and Brooklyn Renn made two free throws to tie the game at 57 with 3.2 seconds left.
James stole the ball midway through the final possession, got fouled, and made one of two free-throw attempts, but the decisive moment came when Wilkins slipped past the defense for the game-winning layup.
Coach Michael Robertson praised the resilience of his squad, noting that the team’s chemistry was evident throughout the contest. The victory marks Kentucky’s third straight win in the senior series, though the all-time ledger still favors Indiana, 54-44.
The rematch is scheduled for Saturday in Indianapolis, where fans can expect another tightly contested showdown. Za’Kiyah Johnson, last year’s Miss Basketball, presented rings to the newest recipients and announced her selection to the 2026 All-SEC Freshman Team.
Johnson also recalled hosting Lola Lampley during a visit to Baton Rouge, highlighting the personal connections that enrich the event and underscore the broader narrative of Southern basketball talent.
