A Narrow Defeat in Des Moines
The 2026 3A State Championship match unfolded at Iowa’s premier venue, where the Norwalk high school boys soccer team faced Des Moines Hoover in a tightly contested final. The game swung back and forth, ultimately ending 4‑3 in Hoover’s favor, a result that left the Norwalk bench and fans stunned.
Eli Scavo was the offensive catalyst for Norwalk, striking twice and reaching his 21st goal of the season. His second strike came early, giving the Warriors a brief lead before Hoover answered with two penalty kicks from Danny Andino that tied the contest. Tyden Eng, who also found the net himself, threaded a decisive assist that set up Scavo’s first goal, underscoring his all‑around impact.
Hoover’s comeback was sparked by Ombe Simbi, who slipped past the defense to put his side ahead with seven minutes remaining. Esanda Kilozo sealed the victory with a late strike, capping a dramatic finish that saw both teams trading blows until the final whistle.
Despite the loss, Norwalk’s talent was recognized across the board. Seniors Tyden Eng, Eli Scavo and Teegan Kralik earned spots on the Class 3A All‑Tournament Team, a testament to their individual excellence amid a collective effort. The Warriors closed the season with a 14‑5‑3 record, a mark that reflects both resilience and a strong start to the year.
Head Coach Dustin Kralik praised the squad’s unity and growth, noting that the team’s journey was defined by moments of brilliance and a shared commitment. ‘I’m proud of how far we’ve come,’ Kralik said, highlighting the bond that will linger long after the seniors move on to the next chapter.
