Class 1A Baseball State Championship Set for Saturday
The Gordon Longhorns and the Groveton Centerville Bulldogs will meet at Dell Diamond in Round Rock on Saturday, June 6, for the Class 1A UIL Baseball State Championship. The contest is slated to begin at noon, though its start could be pushed back if the preceding 5A DII title game runs long.
Both programs are chasing their first state crown in school history. The Longhorns arrive with a 23‑4 record, while the Bulldogs sit at 23‑1, giving them the best win‑loss mark in the tournament.
Aiden Shank will take the mound for Gordon, opposed by Kolt Larsen of Groveton. Their performances could set the tone for a tightly contested game.
Weather Delays and Scheduling Quirks
The 5A DII championship between Sharyland and Lucas Lovejoy has been moved to 9 a.m., and the Class 5A Division I title game is currently under a weather delay. Those factors may affect the noon start time for the 1A game.
Gordon’s path to the title featured victories over Aquilla, Milford, Oglesby, Dodd City and Hamlin, while Groveton’s opponents included Slocum, Chester, Apple Springs, Gilmer Union Hill and Fayetteville.
Coaches and Starting Lineups
Ligon West coaches the Longhorns, whereas Lawton Trekell leads the Bulldogs. Gordon’s lineup includes Shank, Noah Kostiha, Stryker Reed, Brayden Walters, Evan Jackson, Hudson Campbell, Gatlin Simmons, Corvin Seymour, Jasper Clark. Groveton’s starters are Drew Larsen, Hardy Brown, Kolt Larsen, Wyatt Clede, Chris Fry, Brandon McWhorter, Brice Selman, Westin Cornelius, Eli Emmons.
The championship promises a clash of talent and strategy, with both teams eager to etch their names into Texas high school baseball lore.
