Courtney Kollman grew up in Calgary, a city where hockey is woven into the fabric of daily life. From the moment she laced up her first skates at age four, the forward’s trajectory was shaped by a family that lived and breathed the sport.
A bronze medal and a degree
Her talent earned her a bronze medal with Canada at the 2018 World Junior Championships, a milestone that marked her emergence on the international stage. Balancing competition with academics, Kollman logged 146 collegiate appearances across the NCAA and USports before graduating with a Master’s degree in Biomedical Technology, a testament to her commitment both on and off the ice.
After completing her studies, she accepted an opportunity to play abroad, first heading to Switzerland where she spent two seasons. During international breaks she explored the Alpine scenery, using the time to experience new cultures and broaden her perspective.
Life in Spain and Switzerland
A friend’s recommendation led her to Spain, a move that would become a defining chapter. The Spanish community welcomed her with open arms, and she quickly fell in love with the country’s relaxed rhythm and strong sense of belonging.
Her first season in Spain culminated in a championship title, an achievement celebrated with a citywide parade that highlighted the deep connection between sport and local pride. Compared to the high‑tempo environment of Swiss hockey, Kollman found Spain’s pace more laid‑back, allowing her to savor everyday moments while still competing at a high level.
Looking ahead
Looking ahead, the forward is weighing her next move. Options include a stint in Australia or a return to Spain, where she already feels a strong personal and professional connection. Beyond club play, Kollman has also thrown her name into the Professional Women’s Hockey League draft, signaling her intent to continue growing within the women’s game.
