Eastern Michigan University’s ‘Empty The Nest’ Connects Seniors with Alumni Mentors

The fifth annual event pairs graduating football players with professionals from diverse industries for career guidance and networking

Eastern Michigan University’s football program recently staged its fifth annual "Empty The Nest" event on June 5, gathering 23 senior student‑athletes with a network of alumni mentors who represent a wide array of professional fields.

Mentorship Across Generations

The alumni mentors, drawn from sectors such as business, health care, media, law enforcement and entrepreneurship, spent the day offering one‑on‑one guidance, leading small‑group conversations and even sharing a round of golf with the seniors.

Participants said the experience helped them refine interview techniques, expand their professional networks and contemplate the transition from college athletics to the broader workforce.

University officials emphasized that the event reflects a growing emphasis on holistic development, integrating career preparation into the student‑athlete experience and reinforcing the value of lifelong connections with the EMU alumni community.
