Blake Brookins, a junior outfielder who starred at Miami Palmetto High, has entered the transfer portal, marking the latest move in a wave of departures from the Florida Gators baseball program.
The 2024 recruiting class listed him as the No. 38 outfielder nationally and No. 210 overall, a rating compiled by Perfect Game. Though he broke into the lineup only sparingly as a freshman, he managed seven pinch‑hit appearances and drew a single walk. The following season he saw limited action, appearing in four games with two starts at designated hitter and finishing with a .300/.364/.500 slash line.
After opting to redshirt in 2026, Brookins will leave Gainesville with two years of eligibility remaining, a decision driven by his desire for more regular playing time at the mid‑major level.
A new chapter for Brookins
He is not alone; fellow pitchers McCall Biemiller, Matthew Jenkins, Cooper Moss, Christian Rodriguez and infielder Kolt Myers have also entered the portal, underscoring a broader reshuffling within the program.
Amid the turnover, the Gators have secured a commitment from Jon Embury, the 2026 ASUN Player of the Year from Florida Gulf Coast University, who brings recent accolades and offensive firepower to the roster.
The moves reflect a shifting landscape for Florida baseball, where high‑profile recruits are increasingly leveraging the transfer portal to find platforms that promise more immediate impact.
