Gabe Sularski, a 6‑foot‑6 freshman guard, has officially signed with the California Golden Bears for the 2026‑27 season, adding a rare blend of size, skill and international experience to the roster.
Coach Mark Madsen highlighted the recruit’s versatility, noting that Sularski’s defensive instincts, toughness and basketball IQ make him a unique asset for the program.
Standing at 6‑foot‑6, the guard combines elite height with a skill set that allows him to handle the ball, create shots and protect the rim, qualities that Madsen says fit perfectly with the Bears’ evolving style of play.
Sularski’s high school journey began at Layton Christian Academy in Utah, where he earned recognition as one of the top prospects in Illinois and was named the South Suburban Conference Blue Player of the Year after averaging 17.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a junior.
During his junior season he posted a double‑digit scoring average while also contributing on the glass and as a playmaker, a performance that caught the eye of national scouts and earned him a rating among the state’s elite.
International pedigree meets Berkeley
A dual citizen of the United States and Poland, Sularski has already represented Poland at the 2024 FIBA U16 Eurobasket in Greece, where he averaged 16.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, highlighted by a 20‑point, seven‑assist outing against Greece in the Round of 16 and a 24‑point effort versus Lithuania.
His international résumé also includes participation in the 2025 and 2026 Basketball Without Borders Global events, where he suited up for the Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers squads, further sharpening his game against top competition.
The Cal program arrives at this recruitment wave after a standout 2025‑26 campaign that produced 22 victories and a postseason win, setting a high bar for the incoming class.
Sularski will join eight other newcomers — a mix of freshmen and transfers — who are expected to inject fresh talent and depth into the squad as the Bears look to build on recent success.
