The Trinity Christian School baseball team etched its name into West Virginia sports history by stepping onto the field for the first time ever in the state high school baseball tournament. The Warriors entered the 2026 WVSSAC quarterfinals as the No. 8 seed, facing the top‑seeded Huntington St. Joseph Irish.
Quarterfinal Showdown
From the opening inning, Trinity Christian struck first, plating two runs on a timely error that allowed Sam Fulk to cross home plate. Shortly after, Evan Hartley delivered a sacrifice fly that brought Brady Hutson in for the second run, giving the Warriors an early 2‑0 lead.
Huntington St. Joseph answered swiftly. Wyatt Pence launched a two‑run home run in the third inning to knot the score, and the Irish surged ahead with three runs in the third and four more in the fourth, turning a tight contest into a decisive 11‑3 victory.
Head coach Wes Hopkins praised his squad’s effort, noting that the team’s resilience and willingness to compete against a powerhouse program reflected the program’s growing strength. ‘We may have come up short, but the boys showed heart and proved they belong on this stage,’ Hopkins said.
A Milestone Remembered
Though the Warriors fell short of a semifinal berth, their historic run will be celebrated for breaking new ground for Trinity Christian athletics. The 2026 team sets a foundation for future squads to build upon, promising a new era of baseball excellence at the school.
