Titans Fall Short in Sycamore Sectional Championship

Despite a late rally, Boylan's baseball season ends with a 24-15 record after an 11-7 loss to Geneva

Titans' Season Ends in Sycamore

Boylan's baseball team fell 11-7 to Geneva in the Class 3A Sycamore Sectional championship, closing a 24-15 campaign that included a remarkable postseason surge.

Head coach Matt Weber lauded his squad's hunger and the strides they made after a rough 1-7 stretch midseason, noting the team's resilience and the excitement for what lies ahead.

The Titans trailed 11-1 in the fifth inning before sparking a rally led by a timely hit from McDermott, who finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Geneva answered with five runs in the third and six in the fourth, building a cushion that the Titans could not fully erase despite a late push.

Winnebago, another NIC-10 rival, also saw its season end with a 3-0 loss to Harvest-Westminster in the 2A Byron Sectional final, leaving Dakota as the last local hope for a state tournament berth, which also slipped away.

Despite the defeats, Boylan managed to outlast every other NIC-10 program in the postseason, a testament to the program's upward trajectory under Weber and his staff.

Looking Ahead

With a core group set to return and a recruiting class on the horizon, the Titans hope to build on the momentum generated by their deep run, aiming to translate early-season challenges into future success.
