The MacArthur flag football team saw its unbeaten streak come to an abrupt end on Thursday night, dropping a 20-0 decision to Yorktown in the Class B state semifinals. The loss marked the first defeat of a season that had delivered an impressive 18-1-1 record.
A Season to Remember
Coach Steve Fazzolari, who guided the squad throughout the campaign, praised the players for their effort and resilience, emphasizing that the loss did not diminish the pride they felt for what they had accomplished.
Key contributors such as Gina Iannuzzi and Meaghan Campbell made several big plays, but Yorktown’s defense proved relentless, highlighted by Eva Monaco’s end-zone interception that halted a potential scoring drive.
Yorktown’s offense, anchored by Sophia Marcello and Erin Duffy, connected for three touchdowns, including an 11-yard strike that widened the gap in the fourth quarter. Taylor Garro added crucial gains of 14 and 9 yards on the final drive, though the comeback never materialized.
Reflecting on the season, Garro described it as everything she could have dreamed of, while the team expressed pride in the bonds forged on the field and the legacy of a remarkable campaign.
