California's men's basketball team has added Gabe Sularski to its roster for the 2026‑27 season, cementing a new chapter for a program that finished the previous year with 22 victories and its first postseason win since 2014.
The 6‑foot‑6 freshman guard arrives after a standout high school career at Layton Christian Academy in Utah and Lemont High School in Illinois, where he averaged 17.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as a junior and earned South Suburban Conference Blue Player of the Year honors.
Sularski also proved his mettle on the international stage, representing Poland at the 2024 FIBA U16 Eurobasket in Greece. He posted averages of 16.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists, highlighted by a 20‑point, seven‑assist performance against Greece in the Round of 16 and a 24‑point outburst versus Lithuania.
Head coach Mark Madsen praised the newcomer, describing him as a versatile guard with an elite size and skill set that can stretch defenses and create opportunities. “Gabe brings a rare combination of length, shooting and playmaking,” Madsen said in a statement.
The signing comes as the Golden Bears prepare to welcome nine newcomers for the upcoming campaign, a group that includes five players who ranked among the nation’s top‑100 statistical categories last season.
Looking Ahead
With a blend of seasoned contributors and fresh talent, California aims to build on its recent momentum and contend for another deep postseason run. Sularski’s arrival adds a dynamic element that could reshape the team’s offensive schemes and defensive versatility.
