The Kennedy baseball team delivered a commanding 13-0 victory against Crosshill Christian in the state championship, securing its third title within a five-year span. The game, played in Oregon, showcased the squad's offensive firepower and defensive precision.
Central to the win was a senior-laden roster that included Henry Beyer, Jake Beyer, Landon Kline, Brody Panuke, Colby Rich, and Gio Vaquera. Their experience and chemistry translated into a seamless performance that left the opposition scrambling.
Coach Kevin Moffatt praised the seniors for their bond and dedication, noting that their collective work ethic set the tone for the season. "These young men have earned every bit of this success through relentless effort and unity," Moffatt said.
Panuke, who started on the mound, tossed all five innings, allowing just three hits while striking out six batters. His performance epitomized the team's balanced approach, blending solid pitching with a potent bat.
Crosshill Christian, despite the loss, enjoyed a breakout season, scoring the most runs in the state (379) and earning its first appearance in a championship game. The team, coached by Benjamin Northrop, features a youthful roster of three seniors and 13 freshmen and sophomores, signaling a promising future.
Northrop encouraged his players to keep grinding, emphasizing that the experience gained will fuel their ambition to return to the championship stage. The organization, overseen by OSAA and Umpqua Valley Christian, continues to foster competitive high school baseball across Oregon.
